Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a much celebrated destination as the site is popular for stunning sunrise, sunset and mountain views. The first rays of the sun striking the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri is just like cupid’s arrow in the heart. It is a destination where you will fall in love with nature at first sight. On the clear days, you get a stunning view of mountain ranges under the clear blue sky. Probably, it is the best site in the world to realize the real beauty of mountains.

Annapurna Conservation Area protects Ghore Pani Poon Hill Trekking site. Located in the lower part of Annapurna Region, the destination is situated in Myagdi district of Nepal. In other words, Poon-Hill is a vantage point from where you get lifetime memorable view of snow-capped peaks. The trail to Ghorepani Poon –Hill is equally fascinating for trekkers. Namaste! Info Nepal Treks and Expedition heartily welcomes you to the city of temples – Kathmandu. We will meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport. Our office representative will be there holding placard on which either client’s or company's name will be printed just opposite of the arrival and after your reception, we will drive to the hotel. After your arrival at the hotel, we fix the schedule for a short orientation meeting which gives you some general information about the trip and you will settle the rest of the due payment at the same time. For this, you have to be with 3 P.P. size photographs, a copy of passport and copy of travel insurance.

Overnight in hotel

    As per our schedule, the fun begins from today. You will tour Kathmandu—City of Temples. Our tour guide will show you four UNESCO listed World Heritage Sites located in the capital city. The tour begins from Kathmandu Durbar Square. It is a historical place that covers five acres of land in the heart of Kathmandu. There is Hanuman Dhoka Palace, Kumari Ghar, Kasthamandap and many more things to observe.

    The earthquake of 25th April 2015 destroyed many temples and historic building but despite the fact, the charm of the site is still there and things are in the reconstruction phase. After roaming Durbar Square we drive to Pashupatinath Temple. The temple is regarded as greatest Hindu shrine where Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of Linga.

    Bouddhanath Stupa is located in close distance from Pashupatinath. It is an octagonal mandala structure stupa and Lord Buddha is worshipped here. In the vicinity of Bouddhanath, there are more than 50 monasteries where you can visit and see the metal structure of Lord Buddha and many other Buddhas.

    Swoyambhunath is the last destination of our visit today. It is located in a cliff and the view of Kathmandu valley is really nice from here. Swoyambhunath is also known as Monkey Temple as many monkey of Reus species are found here.

    It is a dome-shaped structure above which pyramid-shaped metal structure is placed. At the bottom of that metal structure, you can see eyes of Buddha in all four directions.

    ‘Self-Existing’ is the meaning of Swoyambhunath. It means that when there was nothing in the valley the Swoyambhu used to exist. Legends say that the civilization of Kathmandu Valley began with Swoyambhunath.

    Overnight in Hotel

      After breakfast, we catch a bus to Nayapul. As per your request, we will arrange a vehicle to you for Nayapul—private car or tourist bus. It is a drive of around six hours riding on Prithvi Highway. You will enjoy the countryside of Nepal while on the way. The lush green vegetation, hills and Trishuli River will fascinate you.

      Nayapul is around one and a half hour driving distance from Pokhara.

      No sooner we reach Nayapul we head towards Tikhedhunga. It is around three hours walk. This (Nayapul) is the starting point of our Jomsom Trekking. We will walk along the bank of Modi Khola (River). We arrive at Birethanti followed by Hille. Finally, we arrive at Tikhedhunga.

      Overnight at Tikhedhunga

        Today we pass through Ulleri and walk on the stone steps of more than 3000 stars. The stairs will test your endurance and stamina. Magar is the main inhabitants of this area. They are one of the indigenous groups of Nepal out of 59 groups.

        We arrive at Banthanti. Crossing oak and rhododendron forests we reach Nangethanti. A further couple of hours from here will bring us at Ghorepani.

        Overnight in Ghorepani

          Poon Hill is at a walking distance of around 45 minutes from Ghorepani. It is a vantage point where people gather in the morning to get the view of the rising sun. The sunrays striking Annapurna and Dhaulagiri in the morning are truly awesome.

          After spending a few hours in Poon-Hill we get back to Ghorepani and have breakfast. We now proceed towards Tadapani.

          We now get back to Poon-Hill for breakfast and proceed towards Tadapani.

          Overnight in Tadapani

            Crossing rhododendron and orchid forest we arrive at Ghandruk. It is a place where Gurung people inhabit. The site is popular for Gurung museum and their culture.

            On the way to Ghandruk, you get a mesmerizing view of Annapurna, Lamjung and Manaslu Himal.

            Overnight in Ghandruk

              The trail is easy today. We will be at Nayapul after walking for around five hours from Ghandruk. We catch a private car or local bus to reach Pokhara. We will enjoy Pokhara today especially, roaming in Lakeside.

              Overnight in Pokhara

                After breakfast, we will be driving to Kathmandu. You will be riding through Prithvi Highway enjoying countryside Nepal. The will ride along the way of Trishuli River.

                Here in the capital, you get ample of time to roam around especially, on the streets of Thamel. If interested, you can purchase gifts to your friend and family.

                Info Nepal Treks and Expedition will offer you farewell dinner tonight.

                Overnight in hotel

                  Your Nepal stays end today. A representative of Info Nepal Treks and Expedition will drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport three hours earlier to your scheduled flight.

                    Best Weather of the Year

                    There are two finest weathers in a year for Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. In fact, these two weathers are best for all kind of trekking/travel in Nepal.

                    Autumn( Sep-Nov) and Spring (Mar-June) are the best two weathers of the year for Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. Trekkers will entirely be favored by the weather condition during these months so that they don’t have to panic about any other unforeseen circumstances like rain and the snow during the trek.

                    The temperature will be mild, the views will be breathtaking and the trails will be very fine for getting new higher elevations and accomplish the trek pleasantly.

                    However, one can do Ghorepani Poonhill Trek throughout the year during the fair weathers when there is no rain and snow.

                    Level of Difficulty and Preparations

                    Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is a easy trek in Annapurna region. It is just a couple of days walk to get Poonhill from Pokhara city. The highest elevation we get in this trek is Poonhill which is 3200m. So, trekking up to 3000m is not considered to be challenging. Even the beginners can do this trek and enjoy magnificent views of mountain panoramas. Thos who can walk 4-5 hours in the hills above 2000m can easily do this trek.

                    Pack up the required trekking gear with right clothing, practice some regular exercises like walking, hiking, jogging, climbing the hills and walking down, fix serious health issues before going to the trail and gain stamina and confidence before you begin Ghorepani Poonhill Trek.

                    Otherwise, people of any age can easily do Ghorepani Poonhill Trek.

                    Elevation Ranges

                    If you begin your Ghorepani Poonhill trekking from Kathmandu, you are at 1400m high. Then, you switch to Pokhara which is located at an elevation of 900m lower than Kathmandu. Next, you go to Nayapool to begin hiking up to Ulleri (1960m) and finally get to Poonhill ( 3200m), the highest elevation of this trek, via Ghorepani ( 2800m). Then, you switch your trek to Tadapani (2630m) and Ghandruk (2012m).

                    So, summing up, Ghorepani Poonhill Trek Elevation ranges between 1400m-900-3200.

                    Required Permits

                    Trekkers require obtaining two different types of permits for Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. These are TIMS Card (Trekking Information Management System) and Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit. If you can go and visit Nepal Tourism Board Office on your own, you can collect them, or, you travel partner will help you collecting these permits before you depart for the trek. TIMS Card costs USD 10 and Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit costs USD 30.

                    Food and Accommodation

                    Trekkers will have the food items provided by the local teahouses/lodges/hotels on the trail. You will have the food items like Continental, Asian, Chinese, Tibetan, Indian and Nepali dishes on the menu prepared by them. The food items will fresh and organic. Sometimes, you may not have the food item you like because they may run out of the raw materials for the foods since there is no good transportation facility on the trekking trail. Single item of food costs between Rs.600-1500 on the trail.

                    The accommodation will be provided by the local lodges/teahouses on the trail. The accommodation will be on the twin sharing basis. The beds and the rooms will fairly clean to stay overnight. But, you suggested carrying sleeping bag so that you don’t need to ask for extra piece of blanket in case the weather goes too cold.

                    Altitude Sickness and Preparations

                    In fact, there is no any case of altitude sickness while ascending up to Poonhill via Ghorepani because no people get acute mountain sickness while climbing up to 3000m. However, there are rare cases of mild altitude sickness which may distract you from enjoying this trek.

                    What happens if you we get altitude sickness? You have got fever, stomach ache, diarrhea, lightheadedness, headache, vomiting etc. If these problems go worse, then, you had not better continue the trek and you must walk down or take rest at the place where you are. If you feel you at risk and ask your guide to arrange for the rescue and you will immediately be evacuated to the nearest city where you can have a good treatment.

                    The Ways of Avoiding Altitude Sickness

                    • Prepare and pack up the right and reliable trekking gear
                    • Avoid drinking contaminated water from local taps and river
                    • East fresh food items
                    • Do not smoke and drink a lot
                    • Address any kind of serious illness if you have beforehand the trek
                    • Ascend with the right pacing and have proper acclimatization
                    • Tell your guide if you have any sudden problems in your health
                    • Just relax, be confident and have plenty of hot drinks
